ProstateVISION: transforming BRCAness biomarker detection through deep learning.
€80,000
Metastatic prostate cancer remains an incurable disease. Some tumours show alterations in DNA repair mechanisms, a feature associated with more aggressive disease, but also with a higher likelihood of responding to treatments such as PARP inhibitors (PARPi) or platinum-based chemotherapy.
To move towards more personalised medicine, the project led by Dr. Raquel Pérez López, and funded by FERO Cancer with the sponsorship of the Fundació Castell de Peralada, will develop an artificial intelligence-based clinical tool to help identify which patients are most likely to benefit from these treatments. To this end, the team will analyse clinical, molecular, radiological imaging and laboratory data from thousands of patients with metastatic prostate cancer treated with PARPi and chemotherapy.
The aim is to use information that is already routinely collected in clinical practice to better predict disease progression and response to treatments. In addition, the team will develop open-access software, designed to be easily integrated into clinical practice, which will help physicians make more informed therapeutic decisions, thereby improving patients’ quality of life and optimising the use of healthcare resources.
