Accelerating a shielded CAR-T therapy for the treatment of metastatic or refractory bone and soft tissue sarcoma.
€80,000
Bone and soft tissue sarcomas are common pediatric cancers. Patients with metastasis have low survival rates, and new therapies are necessary. With the support of the 1st FERO-Aladina Grant in pediatric cancer, the team led by Dr. Pablo Menéndez from the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute and the Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation seeks to develop a next-generation treatment for children and young people with these highly aggressive sarcomas. They will use the patient’s own immune system cells, modified to recognize and attack the cancer precisely. Furthermore, this cell therapy will incorporate a unique system to overcome the barriers that protect the tumor, thereby increasing the treatment’s efficacy. If successful, this project will open the door to new clinical trials and could offer a real cure option for patients without alternatives, marking a key advancement in pediatric oncology.
