3rd FERO Fellowship Dr. Baselga – Dr. Luis Álvarez-Vallina

SMART-T immunotherapy, known as “dagger cells”, aims to revolutionise the treatment of solid tumours through personalised T lymphocytes active against multiple intra- and extracellular targets, combining elements of previous therapies such as CAR-T cells and bispecific antibodies. With this novel approach, the III FERO Fellowship Dr. Baselga project led by Dr. Luis Álvarez-Vallina seeks to overcome intratumoural heterogeneity and the immunosuppressive microenvironment by developing personalised cell therapies for epithelial cancers based on the genetic modification of autologous lymphocytes. With the potential to transform the treatment of solid tumours, the SMART-T strategy offers hope for patients who do not respond to standard therapies.
