With the support of the 5th FERO-MANGO Project, the research team led by Dr. Marcos Malumbres at VHIO aims to understand the molecular reasons why patients with a specific subtype of breast cancer (ER+, HER2-), who are routinely treated with therapies targeting cyclins, only have a transient response to treatment and ultimately relapse. With FERO’s support, the team will use cutting-edge proteomics and genetics technologies, animal models, and samples from breast cancer patients. The goal of this project is to shed light on the molecular reasons for relapse in patients treated with cyclin inhibitors and to develop alternative strategies so that all breast cancer patients can ultimately be cured.
