17th FERO Grant – Dr. Priscila Monteiro Kosaka

17th FERO Grant

Dra. Priscila Monteiro Kosaka

Researcher at the CSIC
PROJECT
New devices at the frontier of nanomechanics and nano-optics for the detection of next-generation lung cancer biomarkers through blood tests.
GRANT AMOUNT
€80,000

The research aims to develop a new technology for the identification of biomarkers that allow for the early detection and treatment of lung cancer through a blood test. Her study focuses on the development of a hybrid technology that combines two powerful nanotechnologies, nanomechanics and nano-optics, for the detection of fusion proteins responsible for cancer development and growth. Currently, the detection of these types of proteins, which are found in ultra-low concentrations, is only possible through a biopsy—an invasive procedure that cannot be used in advanced stages of the disease. The project aims to develop a highly sensitive technology that allows for the identification of fusion proteins through a simple blood test, in order to establish biomarkers that enable more effective diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.
