4th FERO Fellowship Dr. Baselga – Dr. Jaume Mora

4th FERO Fellowship Dr. Baselga

Dr. Jaume Mora

Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation (SJD)
PROJECT
To investigate how to leverage vulnerabilities in the cell differentiation state to treat paediatric cancer.
GRANT AMOUNT
€300,000

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a highly aggressive paediatric tumour with few therapeutic options for patients who relapse, as tumour cells develop resistance to treatments.

The project led by Dr. Jaume Mora, winner of the 4th FERO Fellowship Dr. Baselga, aims to understand how tumour cells develop resistance to treatments by specifically studying cell differentiation, the process by which cells specialise in a specific function. After identifying the PRKG1 protein as a key player in this process and a potential therapeutic target, Dr. Mora’s team will use advanced molecular biology technologies and animal models to design personalised therapies that can reverse resistance.

The project’s ultimate goal is to develop a new treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma and prepare a multicentre, international clinical trial to bring this advance closer to affected children.
