16th FERO Grant – Dr. Joaquin Mateo

16th FERO Grant

Dr. Joaquin Mateo

Researcher at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)
PROJECT
Novel approaches to liquid biopsy in prostate cancer to inform precision medicine.
GRANT AMOUNT
€80,000

This project aims to determine if a liquid biopsy analysis integrating circulating tumor cells (CTCs), circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), and exosomal tumor DNA (exoDNA) is effective as a non-invasive prognostic and predictive method in prostate cancer. This research seeks to contribute to improving clinical outcomes in patients through more precise and personalized care, based on studying the evolution of prostate cancer using non-invasive analyses—requiring only plasma samples collected before and during treatment—thus overcoming the limitations of obtaining repeated tumor biopsies to determine tumor evolution in each affected individual.
