Sarcomas are malignant tumours with a high rate of morbidity and mortality in both children and adults. The need to develop new treatments drove this research project, whose ultimate aim was to identify predictive biomarkers for different drugs used to treat sarcomas with limited therapeutic options at present.
The project consisted of two main lines of work. The first sought to create a platform of sarcoma xenograft models by implanting fresh samples of human sarcomas. The second focused on identifying sarcoma biomarkers in order to identify therapies with greater efficacy. As a result, a small window was opened onto personalised medicine for sarcomas, identifying patients who could benefit from other treatments.
