2nd FERO-GHD Breast Cancer Research Project – Dr Cristina Saura and Dr Miriam Sansó

2nd FERO-GHD Breast Cancer Research Project

Dra. Cristina Saura y la Dra. Miriam Sansó

Researchers at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)
PROJECT
ctDNA in breast milk for early detection of pregnancy-associated breast cancer
GRANT AMOUNT
€80,000

In their research, they propose an innovative use of liquid biopsy in breast milk. The aim is to validate the use of breast milk for the early detection of pregnancy-associated breast cancer, helping to improve its current prognosis. Diagnosing breast cancer during pregnancy and the postpartum period is made more difficult by the changes the breast undergoes during gestation and by limitations on imaging tests to protect the fetus during this period. With the aim of diagnosing these tumours at curable stages, this project is based on the detection of tumour-derived ctDNA identified in breast milk.
