5th FERO Grant

Postdoctoral Researcher, Experimental Therapeutics Group. VHIO (Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology, Barcelona)
PROJECT
Study of predictive biomarkers and mechanisms of resistance to targeted breast cancer therapy.
GRANT AMOUNT
€70,000

Despite therapeutic advances in breast cancer in recent years, there are still cases that resist targeted therapy. This project aims to delve into the genetic and molecular aspects that determine sensitivity and resistance to the latest drugs currently used in breast cancer: PI3K and CDK4/6 inhibitors in combination with approved drugs for treating hormone-dependent disease. The goal is to identify the group of patients who will best benefit from these therapies.

The project consists of three main pillars: expansion of the xenograft model; study of the anti-tumor activity of PI3K and CDK4/6 inhibitors in PDX breast cancer models of the luminal (ER-positive) and HER2 subtypes, using an ex-vivo assay; validation of genotype/pharmacodynamic marker associations with phenotype using genetic engineering and molecular biology techniques.
