PROJECT
Therapeutic Remodeling of Glyco-Immune Circuits to Overcome T Cell Exhaustion and Exclusion in Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.
GRANT AMOUNT
€300,000

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive tumors with the poorest prognosis. Although immunotherapy has improved survival in other aggressive cancers, it is largely ineffective in pancreatic cancer because the tumor creates an environment that weakens immune system cells and prevents them from penetrating the tumor tissue.

The project, led by Dr. Gabriel Rabinovich and funded by FERO Cancer with the sponsorship of Fundación Gandara, aims to block these mechanisms to restore the activity of immune cells against the tumor. To achieve this, the team will combine two innovative therapeutic strategies. On the one hand, they will block molecules present in the tumor microenvironment that inhibit the action of the immune system. On the other hand, they will modify patient immune cells in the laboratory to generate CAR-T cells resistant to these inhibitory mechanisms and with a greater ability to penetrate the tumor.

The ultimate goal is to generate new therapeutic opportunities for patients with pancreatic cancer and other solid tumors resistant to immunotherapy.
