XII FERO Grant – Dr. Clara Bueno

XII FERO Grant

Dra. Clara Bueno

Researcher at the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute
PROJECT
Adoptive immunotherapy with CAR-NG2 T-cells for acute leukaemia with MLL rearrangement.
GRANT AMOUNT
€70,000

Relapsed or treatment-refractory acute lymphoblastic leukaemias of lymphoid (ALL) and myeloid (AML) origin are difficult to treat. However, the last three years have seen a revolution with the therapeutic application of CAR T-cells. The transfer of CAR T-cells targeting a specific tumor cell surface molecule is an exciting new approach for cancer immunotherapy.

In this project, the necessary preclinical trials have been conducted to demonstrate the efficacy of CAR in the treatment of AML with MLL rearrangements. Regarding infant ALL, the NG2 antigen has been successfully blocked, and the team filed a European patent for the therapeutic use of this antigen. Finally, a strategy based on the use of CAR is being developed to prevent relapse in patients with ALL.
