XXIII FERO Grant
Dr. Juan Miguel Cejalvo
Study of the role of AXL in modulating tumor microenvironment and its therapeutic potential in HER2-positive breast cancer.
€80,000
The breast cancer research team at INCLIVA, led by Dr. Juan Miguel Cejalvo, has as one of its objectives to halt the growth and prevent metastasis of HER2-positive breast cancer by blocking the AXL protein, a molecular target with an essential role in resistance to anti-HER2 therapies. With the support of funding obtained through the XXIII FERO Grant, they will carry out preclinical studies that may demonstrate whether AXL is, as evidence suggests, a key element in resistance to anti-HER2 therapies. These studies are essential so that, in the future, clinical trials can be conducted with breast cancer patients in which AXL inhibitor drugs would be evaluated and effective therapies can be offered to patients who currently have no option for a cure.
