Institut de Recerca Biomédica and Fundació Sant Joan de Déu
PROJECT
Genome Editing as a Therapeutic Approach in Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor
GRANT AMOUNT
€80,000

The XXV FERO Grant project, to be carried out by the team led by Dr. Alexandra Avgustinova, aims to develop the first targeted, safe, and efficient therapy for patients with malignant rhabdoid tumors. Dr. Avgustinova’s team will use gene editing strategies in mouse models and human samples to reverse pro-tumor alterations in SMARCB1, reactivate its epigenetic function, and thus halt tumor growth. With the results of this project, Dr. Avgustinova seeks to obtain proof-of-concept data to advance to a clinical trial with this therapy in patients with malignant rhabdoid tumors.
