In today’s post, we would like to introduce the people behind the operations and daily activities of the FERO Foundation: the FERO team.
Their work and commitment are essential for the Foundation’s growth, fundraising, and identifying and funding pioneering projects in Spain. Experts in their fields, the members of the FERO team manage the funded projects, collaborating with the best research centers to ensure their proper development and achieve progress in the fight against cancer. Get to know them a little better!

Ruben Ventura Masip – Managing Director
After spending 5 years as Scientific Director of the FERO Foundation, in 2022 he accepted the challenge of also becoming its Managing Director. Born in Barcelona, he holds a degree in Chemistry from the UB and a doctorate in Medicinal Chemistry specializing in neurodegenerative diseases.
He loves football and is a big fan of F.C. Barcelona or, as he says, a “gran culer.” He enjoys running to disconnect, think, and organize his ideas, having completed the Barcelona Marathon three times. He loves music, especially Manel and Dire Straits, although his weakness is sweets, specifically tiramisu. If you need to convince him of something, invite him to one!

Sandra Miranda Cirlot – Fundraising Director
Also born in Barcelona, Sandra is the Fundraising Director of the FERO Foundation. She holds a degree in Art History from the UB, and her doctorate is in the most radical art of all: contemporary art. It is no surprise, then, that she is passionate about art, about the sensibility that a painting, a photograph, or a sculpture awakens in human beings.
She is very curious, loves to learn new things every day, and enjoys being surrounded by people who inspire her. She adores Italian food, but she can’t resist a good cheesecake, which she can eat at any time of day. Musically, she has very varied tastes, from Chopin to Spanish national music like Mecano or international rock like U2. What she enjoys most is spending time with her family, her husband and three children, especially summers in Menorca, where she dreams of retiring with her husband. Sandra adds: “Being at FERO is a dream come true; I am fascinated by the cause, and I love raising awareness about the importance of research.” We are very fortunate to have someone like her.

Bárbara Fontanals Cirera – Scientific Project Manager
Bárbara was also born in Barcelona, where she earned a degree in Biology from the UB, although she spent the next 13 years living in New York. There, she obtained a doctorate in Molecular Oncology and Tumor Immunology from New York University. After a post-doctorate, she returned to Barcelona with her family and joined the Foundation’s team.
If there’s one thing she’s passionate about, it’s food. She defines herself as a “total foodie,” so it’s no surprise that the way to convince her is through her stomach: buy her a bag of red candies, and you’ll have her attention. She loves mountain sports, especially skiing, but she can’t choose between the sea and the mountains, as swimming in the Mediterranean is one of her pleasures. She loves music, with Shakira, Bob Marley, and Bon Iver being among her favorites, and she is a mother of two girls.

Rebeca Arias Pastor – Office Manager
Rebeca is from Barcelona and studied Business Administration at Abat Oliba CEU University. She completed her degree with a master’s in accounting management and a postgraduate degree in Human Resources. She is very happy to be part of the FERO team, as she knows that our cause is of vital importance, giving her all to achieve better cancer research.
A nature lover, she enjoys exploring and discovering charming villages with her camera in hand, as photography is another one of her passions. She listens to a wide variety of music, as for her, music is linked to her emotions, so she can listen to Sia as much as Ludovico Einaudi depending on the time of day.
At the FERO Foundation, we could not have wished for a better team to lead the Foundation. A committed team that shares FERO’s values and strives every day to achieve our goal of eradicating cancer as a cause of death.
