In this interview, Dr. Ruben Ventura, Director of the FERO Foundation, explains how a vaccine against COVID-19 was found in record time thanks to previous research into other diseases.
“If we have learned anything from this pandemic, it is that research works. If we have COVID-19 vaccine treatments today, it is because previous research into other inflammatory diseases, cancer, and many others has allowed us to crystallize current treatments. In the same way, to cure cancer, we need to invest in research.”
The cure for cancer lies in research, but research requires investment.
Although there is research talent in Spain, there is little investment in oncological research by the State; therefore, foundations like FERO are necessary to finance oncological research projects and make such an important profession more visible.
Where do we get the funds to invest in research?
From individuals to companies, there are multiple ways to collaborate with the FERO Foundation and contribute to financing translational cancer research projects at research centers such as the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology in Barcelona, the Health Research Institute of Valencia (INCLIVA), and the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid, the main research centers with which the Foundation collaborates.
Ways to collaborate with the FERO Foundation and oncological research
Make a donation
Financial donations of any amount you wish can be made on our “sumando horas” (adding hours) donation webpage or via Bizum:
1 – Open the banking app where you have Bizum active. 2 – Select “Make a donation”. 3 – Enter the number 33593. 4 – Choose the amount you wish to donate.
If you are a company, you can become a collaborator and participate in the FERO Foundation’s activities or link your brand to our initiatives and projects.
Link your brand to the FERO Foundation
If you have a brand and want to make a donation through the sale of your products, count on FERO! Get inspired by one of our favorite initiatives: the awareness and fundraising campaign by ghd Spain.
The Pink collection by ghd Spain aims to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
Thys Niermeyer, the company’s general manager in Spain, tells us about the motivation and intention behind this initiative:
“Every year we release a limited edition of our products, stylers, hair straighteners, and dryers. And this year, as a novelty, we included an electric brush. For every unit sold, we give a donation of €10. This year we continue with the Take Control Now initiative, the proceeds of which go towards the FERO ghd grant. We have seen that self-examination is very important because it helps in the early detection of breast cancer, and there is still a lack of habit.”
In 2022, the company donated 113,760 euros to the Foundation, and has contributed nearly 2 million euros since the collaboration began.
Companies like ISDIN also collaborate with us through the “Together Against Breast Cancer” campaign, as does Mango through the launch of a solidarity collection whose proceeds go to the FERO-MANGO Project in breast cancer, or the “Mango likes you” program, a point accumulation system where for each of your purchases you can do two things: get discounts on clothes or donate them to different foundations, including FERO.

Attend the FERO Grants Charity Dinner
Every year we organize two charity dinners as part of our grant awards, one in Barcelona and another in Madrid, where attendees make a minimum donation of €300. Furthermore, during the dinner, they can continue to contribute any amount they wish, as can be seen on the counter of the XXIII edition of the FERO Grants. The funds raised during the event will be allocated to the various research projects financed by FERO.
The next charity dinner as part of the XXIV FERO Grants ceremony will be held in Barcelona on May 22 at the MNAC. We look forward to seeing you!
If you would like to collaborate with the FERO Foundation through any of the aforementioned proposals, please contact us at fero@fero.org and we will help you make it happen.
